Mount Kenya is the second-highest in Africa, after Kilimanjaro. The highest peaks of the mountain are Batian (5,199 metres), Nelion (5,188 m) and Point Lenana (4,985 m). Sirimon coming off the west of Mount Kenya passes through the dry side of the mountain with its giant trees and rocky terrain, and the descent onto the Chogoria path is exactly different with its lush bamboo and highland forests.

Amboseli is home to the giant African elephants. The park also has views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest free-standing mountain in the world. Its freshwater lakes, its swampy ditches that are home to pelicans and flamingos, or its dusty desert shrub areas inhabited by wildebeest, zebras and impalas. Amboseli’s geography is so simple that its description brings to mind the pirates’ treasures maps. The vast plain starts in the dry bed of Amboseli Lake, that welcomes the visitor with its desolating image.

Southward and eastward the area named Ol Tukai shows up, a patch of luxuriant green that hides some of the park’s lodges. Following southward there is a palm tree forest, a cool oasis that supplies shade, water and shelter for plenty of wildlife.

Lake Nakuru national park covers an area of 188km squared (73miles squared). It was created in 1961 around Lake Nakuru. It is adorned by millions of flamingoes. It is also a sanctuary to protect giraffes as well as both black and white rhinos.

The park contains more than 25 eastern black rhinos, plus around 70 southern white rhinos. There are also a number of Rothschild's giraffe, again relocated for safety from western Kenya beginning in 1977. Waterbucks are very common and both the Kenyan subspecies are found here. It also contains other animals such as leopards, zebras, lions and cheetahs.

Apart from the flamingoes, the park also contains other birds such as the African fish eagle, Goliath heron, hamerkop, pied kingfisher and Verreaux's eagle.
