Mt Kenya Expeditions
Mount Kenya is Africa's second highest mountain and offers a choice of exciting treks and climbs through varied ecosystems and awe-inspiring scenery. With its volcanic ridges and glacial valleys radiating across the land like spokes from a wheel, the massive bulk of Mount Kenya straddles the Equator yet is permanently crowned with snow. The Mount Kenya National Park, surrounded by 2000 square kilometres of Forest Reserve, is dominated by the twin summits of Batian (5,199 m) and Nelion (5,188 m).
The Mount Kenya Forest Reserve provides the ideal habitat for vast herds of buffalo and elephant as well as a bright kaleidoscope of birds and other wildlife. At higher altitudes, the forest gives way to lush bamboo groves where colobus monkeys leap and leopard prowl and, higher up, there is tussock grass and alpine moorlands, jewel-studded by icy glacial tarns and moraines. As for the globally unique alpine flora, it features 13 species endemic to the mountain including giant lobelias, groundsel and water-holding cabbages.
4 Days Sirimon Route
DAY 1: Nairobi/Nanyuki/Old Moses
Departure from Nairobi at 0700 hrs from your hotel and transfer to Nanyuki arriving after 3 hours. Later transfer to Sirimon gate and hike to Old Moses camp for overnight (3300m), 3 to 4 hrs hikes (9kms).
5 DAYS MT.KENYA CLIMBING NARO - MORU ROUTE
Day 1: Nairobi-Naro-Moru
After pick up in Nairobi drive to the Naru moru park gate for lunch. From the gate, we trek up through magnificent mountain forest, bamboo and giant heather zone before reaching the high altitude moorland and our first cabins drive to the Youth Hostels for dinner and overnight.
This is a gentle trek that takes 3 - 4 hrs gaining an elevation of 600m.
05 Days Sirimon - Sirimon Route
DAY 1: NAIROBI - NANYUKI
Depart Nairobi in shared transport for Mount Kenya area – arrive Nanyuki late afternoon.Afternoon acclimatize .Dinner and overnight at Simbas hotel
6 Days Sirimon - NaroMoru Route
Day 1 : Nairobi to NaroMoru
Leave Nairobi in the morning and head to Naro Moru the base camp at the Mt. Kenya Youth Hostel. After lunch we will debrief and check the mountain gear. Then we will have free time and relax at the Youth Hostel Camp site where we will have dinner and stay overnight.
